How long do ssds last

Dear Lifehacker,

How long do ssds last. The only drives I have lost to long term storage was three SSDs, A 120, and two 240GB SSD that were left unpowered in PC cases for over 1 year. 1-4 years. They would not boot but I could reformat and use the dead drives. Its a small sampling but that was 100 percent of the SSDs I left unpowered for that long. 3 of 3 went dead.

To add just a little bit more to this, most of these top drives from WD or Samsung have 5-10 year warranties attached to them. I had an old 7200rpm HDD WD black give out after 4.5 years and they gave me a brand new one no questions asked. So even if they don't last you 30 years, they last well into the next time you need to upgrade.

Their drives are not all fully through a five-year cycle, so reliable data is not available. However, a comparison of year-to-year failure rates of SSDs vs HDDs suggests that SSDs do fail, but not as often as HDDs.How long do SSDs last? Now, read on to learn how to calculate SSD life.
